Laika is a dog and the first animal to be fly into space. At the time the ship carrying Laika fly into space, scientists were still very vague about the impact of spaceflight on living organisms. Laika, trained with two other dogs, was selected to be aboard Sputnik 2 and launched into orbit on November 3, 1957.
